Approaching the Word

IMG_0183I approach my time in the Word with anticipation.  My mind is like that of a hungry child coming to my mother’s dinner table.  I don’t know what she’s going to serve.  I haven’t even formed an opinion about what I want. Mom’s cooking is always good.  What does my growing body require? What do I need when it comes to vegetables or meat, or fruit?  I don’t know, but Mom knows.  So I just come and sit at the table with an appetite. And I am served.  And I get satisfied. So it is with my daily devotions and God’s Word.  I don’t know what I really need spiritually each day, but God does. I don’t know what I should read, but my spiritual appetite is strong. So I wait for the Holy Spirit to serve me.God rewards those of us that diligently seek Him. (Heb. 11:6).  The  psalmist says those who fear the LORD lack no good thing. (Ps. 34:9) So I come to the table of the Word expecting to be fed.And I don’t get up, close my Bible, and walk away from this “table” UNTIL I AM FED.  And satisfied.Expect God to feed you.  Ask Him to satisfy your appetite.  If need be, ask Him to give you an appetite.  Because how else are you going to grow?
