Chapter 24: Letting Go

During this week, did you face any faith tests?  Were these Rules of Engagement helpful in the stress?

In this chapter, both Madeleine and Robert have to contend with different struggles.  Robert has lost material wealth, his health and the loyalty of his men.  He learns that mutineers are seeking his life.Madeleine wants to believe that Robert loves her, that she is his “main stay”, but he keeps coming and going from her life.  During one visit, she gets excited about having a future with him, and then poof – he’s gone again.Madeleine even admits that her faith waxes and wanes.  When life goes smoothly she barely thinks about God, but when a beloved animal is hurt, she is quick to pray.  She said, ”I balked at yielding to God.  Better that I keep some control over my life.” (pg. 248)So how do we human beings deal with losing things that are important to us – whether it is relationships, belongings, careers, or physical health?  So much in this life on a daily basis is out of our control, isn’t it?  Yet we hang on any semblance of control that we can see.In this week’s video blog I want to talk about a key principle that has helped me get through my life.  I call it the Abraham and Isaac Principle. Let’s watch the video.
