Giving Jesus a Drink

IMG_5472When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well in the town of Sychar, his first words to her were, “Woman, give me a drink.”Can you imagine Jesus, the incarnated Creator of the Universe, asking you for a drink? Think about what that means at a deeper level than your simply offering the Jewish traveler a thirst-quenching drink of water.“To drink” means several things:— to take into oneself, to absorb it.— to savor or enjoy, like “drink together for pleasure.”— to show respect or affection, like “let’s drink to your victory.”When I give Jesus a drink, spiritually-speaking, I am taking him into myself and offering myself to him.  We are absorbing each other.  How intimate can you get?!When I offer Jesus a drink, I am inviting him to join me in my pleasure of refreshment and relaxation.  What great fellowship is that? When I lift up the cup to him and offer the drink, I acknowledge my respect for him and desire to join him in a celebration.   Let’s toast to Jesus for his victory on the Cross.
