Stand in the gap

Reading about the Israelites in Numbers 16, I learned a lesson from Aaron, which is transforming my prayer life.  He stood in the gap for his people. After leaving Egypt and miraculously crossing the Red Sea, the Israelites had become complaining and rebellious. A group of 250 leaders mutinied against Moses.  God punished them by swallowing up their families and possessions in an earthquake.  Then a plague started to spread throughout the camp.Moses said to Aaron, his brother the high priest, “Take your censer and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar and hurry to make atonement for these people.  Wrath has come out from the Lord; the plague has started.“So Aaron did as Moses said and ran into the midst of the assembly.  The plague had already started among the people, but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them.  He stood between the living and the dead and the plague stopped.” (Numbers. 16:46-48)The censer with the incense in it is symbolic of praise and prayer.  The burning coals from the altar represents the sacrifice of the Lamb.  The strategy Aaron used to hold back the disaster of death by plague, we can use also.  We can hold back the impact of sin in our loved ones’ lives.  Specifically, we can praise the Lord (waving our incense of praise around), and declare the power of the cross of Christ as the sacrificial Lamb (carrying the burning coals). As an anointed intercessor for Jesus, you can do what Aaron did:  run into the midst of the people and offer up praise, while declaring the power of the Cross.  You will see the lives of your love ones change! In Christ,
