Watch Out for Spiritual Amnesia
Do you know someone who has amnesia? Spiritual amnesia, that is. Someone who forgets that she is a spiritual being. Do you yourself forget that the Creator, the Great I-Am, made you in His image, part spirit? Do you recall that God is molding you daily to be filled with His Spirit? Do you remember you will move into Eternity one day as a spiritual being? Many people don’t give this reality a thought. When I meet a client for the first time and take his/her history, I ask many questions, like “How are you feeling?” “How are you sleeping?” “How are you doing?” One of the final questions is, “How are you spiritually?”How would you answer that? When I ask people this, much of the time I am met with dumbfounded expressions.A conversation often goes like this, once I’ve introduced that question:The person asks, “What do you mean, ‘spiritually’?”I say, “Spiritually — that part of you that connects with a higher power, that part of you that feels God down deep — how is that part of you doing?”My client says, “Well, I don’t know. I never think about God.”I say, “Oh? Well, I’m asking because I care about your overall health. I believe we were each created with body, soul and spirit. For you to be well, all three parts need to be healthy, need to be in harmony with each other. Would you give some thought to your spiritual condition? Reflect on God, please.”These dear people have spiritual amnesia from my way of thinking. It behooves those of us who are connected to God to awaken our friends who have this memory loss.Spread the very basic word: “Hey friend, you are a spiritual being. Knowing that, what do you want to do about it?”In Christ,
