On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, an olive grove on a hillside overlooking Jerusalem.  A dramatic moment occurred when Jesus spoke to the guards. (From John 18: 1-8).  Picture the scene:  Judas Iscariot had just led a procession of soldiers and temple officials into the garden, carrying torches and weapons.Jesus asked them, “Who is it you want?”“Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.“I am he,” Jesus said.  When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell (pipto) to the ground.The statement “I am he” is the same as the name God used when He introduced himself to Moses. In Exodus 3, God speaks, “Tell the people I AM WHO I AM. Tell the people I AM has sent me to you.”The men who came to arrest Jesus “fell down.”  This  action word, pipto, is used in different ways and gives us some important word pictures:— During a storm the house that has been built on a sandy foundation will crash (pipto)  to the ground (Mat. 7:27).— The person who falls (pipto) on the Rock [Jesus] will be broken to pieces. (Mat. 21:44)—  During the transfiguration, the disciples fell facedown (pipto) , terrified when the Heavenly Father declared Jesus was His beloved son.  (Mat. 17:6)—  The wise men worshipped (pipto)  the baby Jesus  (Mat. 2:11).  The elders in heaven worshipped (pipto) the Lamb of God. (Rev. 5:8).So which of these “piptos” happened to the men intent on arresting Jesus? Did they crash to the ground under the storm of God?   Were they — or their hearts —  broken to pieces because they were confronted by the Rock?  Were they terrified because they were in God’s presence?  Or were they awed by the awareness that the Almighty God stood in front of them and they fell on their knees and worshipped him?After you consider this,  examine your response to Jesus when He stands before you. What do you do when He says “I AM HE?”  The very fact of Jesus’s existence demands your response.  Whether you realize it or not, in the spiritual realm, JESUS IS STANDING before you.  God is calling you to “pipto.”   Will you crash and be broken because you have refused to worship Him?  Will you fall prostrate out of terror because you don’t yet know the Father’s love and mercy?  Or will you lower yourself before Him in worship — believing  He is the Great I Am, the Savior of the world?If you want to  receive the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven, notice that the way you “pipto” in the presence of Jesus is not a once-in-your-life-time response. It is ongoing.For me, the first time I fell before Jesus happened because my psychological house, built on sand,  had crashed during the emotional storms in my life.The second time I fell on the Rock, because I was convicted that Jesus was my Lord; that act broke my heart to pieces.The third time I “pipto’d”, I experienced the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and was awe-struck and terrified.Now, daily, I bow before Jesus as my King of King and Lord of Lords, just as the elders in heaven worship the Lamb of God.May God bless you beyond your wildest imagination, as you worship (pipto) Him. In Christ,
