Our Hidden Sex Lives  Introduction:  Part I

As a psychologist, what do I know about sex?    [FYI — I was married for 42 years, and do have a son and a daughter.  LOL]

  •          It’s one of the most primitive and fundamental drives, along with aggression.  Both are key to survival of the human race.
  •          It’s a complex network of physical and emotional responses, influenced strongly by hormones.
  •          It’s at the center point of the life cycle:  baby is conceived, is born, develops, emerges as adult, and then wants to make babies, etc. And the cycle continues.
  •          Sexual release is experienced as one of the best stress reducers.
  •          Sex causes more problems in a relationship than most anything else, up there with financial problems and child management.

As a Christian psychologist, what do I know about sex? [FYI — I have been a Christian since I was 17, and have faced many of the temptations discussed, with varying degrees of success.]

  • Participating in sex OUTSIDE of God’s will leads to many other problems that show up in my office.  These include (but are not limited to)  unwanted pregnancies, STDs, feelings of shame and guilt, identity confusion, and failure to receive God’s blessings in other areas of one’s life.  Generational  problems, “curses passed down from family to family”, often are related to sexual behavior.

The next blog will take a look at what God has to say about sex.  Take some time to reflect on what you believe God’s view on sex is.   How are you managing your sexuality?large-signature
