Having a suitable helper brings Soul-Wellness

itiswellIn the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam a suitable helper, a woman to be with him so he would not be alone. (Gen. 2:18)  Let’s flip that around.  God wanted Eve to have a partner as well.  It is God’s intent that human beings are not alone.  Having a partner is a key to soul-wellness.

So where does that statement leave me, a divorced woman?  Where does it leave the many people on this planet who are alone?  Can we have soul-wellness if we “are alone?”

I believe the answer is “yes”.  To those of you readers who have spouses, be grateful.  Do not take that companionship forgranted.  Cultivate it.  There is much to be said for how to make a marriage work, and work well.  (Another blog, another time?)

But to the readers who either do not have a partner or who feel that their partnership is struggling, I suggest this:  Take Jesus as your Betrothed. (See my blog: Marvelous Promises from Isaiah 54.) No earthly mate is going to meet all your needs perfectly.  No earthly mate will bat 100% of the time loving you unconditionally.  So link up with the Almighty God as your Suitable Helper.  Let Him fill your moments of loneliness.  Let Him be the one that honors and celebrates you, when your spouse has not.  Let God’s Word whisper the terms of love, acceptance, and understanding that you need.  Count on your Maker to be your Husband/Wife if you are alone, or feel something is lacking in your marriage.  Then your soul will find peace.
