Why should we pray?

If God is all powerful, and He knows all, and is in all — what value does praying have in the scheme of things?  Have you ever wondered that?  As I walk down the path of spiritual growth this question comes up — why do I pray?—Prayer ignites a cycle of positive interaction, a loop in which the believer finds favor with God, and God in turns responds with pleasure to the person’s needs. This favorable response of God reveals Himself anew to the believer whose faith, in turn then, grows. And the cycle continues.  Job 33: 26 says:  “[Man] prays to God and finds favor with Him; he sees God’s face and shouts for joy and is restored by God.”  We were created to be connected to our Creator.  Prayer connects us to God.Jesus modeled praying (Mat. 14:23).  He took time to pray, and to teach us to pray.  One only needs to recall the Lord’s prayer (Luke 11:2) or read John 17, the “High Priestly Prayer” to see Jesus in action. Did Jesus say “why” prayer was important?  Indeed! Frequently Jesus restated this idea: “Ask and you will receive.” (Mat. 7:7; 21:22; John 14:14, 16:24).  We pray to be obedient.Prayer changes things.   Scripture is full of verses that reveal how prayer changes events, even the heart of God.  Jesus’s prayers healed people, multiplied food sources, turned water into wine, and raised the dead.  James 5: 16 (Amp) says: “The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].”
