A Seven-Minute Bible Study for those on the go
Are you like the people I meet with often, who complain they don’t have time to read the Bible? Or perhaps you want to read the Bible, but the task is overwhelming. Where should you start? How do you know what you are reading, if there is no Bible teacher around? Or do you say, “I can’t remember what I read?”Through my experience, God has shown me a neat Bible study plan. I call it the GPS system. It takes anywhere from five to fifteen minutes. Here are the steps:1. Get a translation of the Bible you can understand. If reading is difficult, put an app on your phone, and turn it onto the audio version. Then have the phone read you a portion.2. Pick a book in the New Testament, and read through it, chunking it only section by section. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Remember the first four books of the New Testament are about the life of Jesus, and the remaining books are letters written by a leader in the Christian church. (Acts stands alone as the book about the history of the early church.)3. Then remember the letters: GPS. I know that GPS is a system for guiding you along a road, helping you to get from one place to your destination. So will this GPS system do the same, but in a spiritual sense.4. Ask yourself three questions after you read the section.G — What does this section teach you about God? P — What promise or provision for you is in this section? S — What does this portion teach you about self. 5. As you apply this, you may find new information or insight, or perhaps you will be reminded of some characteristic or lesson that you learned years ago. In any case, write down the GPS words you received from God.6. Most importantly, claim the promise. God wants to bless you and provide for you. The thrill in this method of connecting with God is to see Him answer your prayers and reveal more and more of Himself to you.If the Holy Spirit is in your heart, God Almighty — the AUTHOR of this book, the Bible — is IN you. God will teach you all you need to know.
