Interceding When Someone Is In A Big Mess
People often ask me how to pray for a loved one (or even one’s enemy) when that person is facing a big mess. These big messes come as a result of external influences (illness, social injuries, environmental disasters, economic crises, to name a few) or internal causes (bad behaviors, wrong thinking, unhealthy emotions.) Our Lord calls us to pray for others, and He loves the heart of an intercessor. Here are a few principles to consider when you step into the role of Intercessor:1. You are under the powerful blood of Jesus. His blood is the key to the victory you have over anything that is evil. Jesus is our High Priest and has the legal right to grab hold of the saving power needed during Big Messes. Jesus has given us this key, a symbol of the authority he has delegated to us to trample on “snakes and scorpions” (anything from the pit of hell) Luke 10:19. This principle — the blood of Christ, and the authority we have as believers — is the cannon shot we need to use when we pray for Big Messes. A prayer of gratitude for the spilled blood of Jesus goes a long way.2. You can “step into the gap” for these people, whether they are believers or people of really little faith. While on the cross, Jesus prayed for the Roman centurions and the thieves — all of whom were not believers at the time Jesus prayed. God the Father honored his Son’s prayer. “Father, forgive them; they don’t know what they are doing.” Like Jesus, we can stand in the gap for our people. The Heavenly Father will accept our prayers “in proxy” for those that are struggling.A prayer of gratitude to the Almighty God for his mercy is power-packed.3. Prayer directed to the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, completes our intercession. Holy Spirit likes to be acknowledged. Say, “Hey, Holy Spirit, I need you” and He shows up. Holy Spirit is charged with rebuking Satan and his spirit associates and cutting off the assignments of evil that are controlling human lives. Holy Spirit will overshadow our people in their Big Messes.A prayer to Holy Spirit creates a spiritual atmosphere of light and peace freeing up divine grace to flow more freely into their lives. What pleases our Godare prayers, intercession and thanksgiving being made for all people, because Abba Father wants all of us to come into the knowledge of the truth. I Tim.2:1,3. In Christ,
