The Power of Healing Prayer

A family brought their five-year-old son to me for prayer because of his serious, un-resolving stomach problem. The same day, I happened to be struggling with a tooth/gum infection that wasn’t getting any better. So the little boy and I took turns praying for each other. His prayer was short and sweet, and absolutely on point:“Dear Jesus, Please heal Dr. Julie’s tooth. Thank you. Amen.”As you can guess, mine was more complex. Mine was not better than the child’s, nor more effective, just more comprehensive. It’s been only twelve hours (over night), so both the little one and I are waiting to see how these healing prayers bear fruit. We are in the faith-test stage, knowing that our God promises healing, just not knowing when.As I pray for the Holy Spirit to heal someone, I include principles the Lord has been teaching me. For the purpose of expanding your view of our Lord’s intention and capacity to bring you and your loved ones into full health, I would like to share these basic ideas with you.Let us focus on Isaiah 53:4a, which is prophetically written by Matthew in Matthew 8:17.The Old Testament says: “Surely our griefs he himself bore, our sorrows he carried.”The New Testament: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”This is my adaptation of this single verse, using both Hebrew and Greek interlinear translations:“This is absolutely a true statement: he himself — no other one — has done this: He has taken up in his own hands, received onto himself, and then carried away our sicknesses of body and corruptions of soul. He has endured the load of our physical and mental pain, and has made our affliction his own. He did this by absorbing the evil into his own sacrificed and crucified body.”When you are praying for yourself or others, imagine our beloved Jesus. Visualize him in his crucified form, touching your infirmity with his own hand, and absorbing that sickness into himself. Repent of any soul sin about which the Holy Spirit is speaking to you. Then picture his precious blood flowing through you, washing your inflicted areas, picking up the “evil” causing your pain and carrying it away. His blood drips from his face, his hands, and his feet. It drips out of his holy body onto the ground at the foot of the Cross. His blood carries away your griefs, your sorrows, your sins and diseases. Therein lies God’s healing process for you.Remember why Jesus did “suffer outside the city gate” on a cross? To make you and me holy and healthy through his own blood. Hebrew. 13:12.Lord, we are forever grateful. In Christ,
