Living Out Your Day with God’s Priorities
On a day that is scheduled, I don’t fret about knowing God’s will. My calendar tells me what to do: see this person, or fix that thing, or run that errand. But on an unstructured day, it is difficult to set my priorities. Certainly I try to be intentional about what I choose to do with my time. I hope my decision lines up with God’s will. But, honestly, does God prefer me to do a load of laundry, buy groceries or cut the grass? Or does He care whether I call a friend, study the Bible, or take the dogs for a walk? I don’t always know. This can cause frustration. So He gave me Psalm 105:4 to help with this issue. Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore! In so doing, Jesus suggested five principles when it comes to living my life according to His plan.
- Assuming it lines up with the Word of God, it doesn’t so much matter what I do. What matters is the condition of my heart and the attitude of my mind as I do it.
- Anything that I do that is not based in faith, is sin. (Rom. 14:23)
- The Lord wants me to do everything in dependence on Him, for apart from Him, I can do nothing. (John 15:5)
- I am to do all in the name of Jesus. (Col. 3:17)
- The “referee” (my inner voice), telling me that I am following His way, is Peace ruling in my heart. (Col. 3:15)
At the end of a day, wouldn’t it be nice to knowthat Jesus is smiling because you lived out your day free from frustration, knowing that you walked through the daythe way He wanted you to?
