One Day Every Knee Shall Bow
The Word tells us that one day every knee shall bow to the name of Jesus. Each human being will bow for one of two reasons: One group will bow in worship and reverence as the final expression of his life of commitment to Christ. The other group will fall on their knees out of fear, struck down in awe at God's holiness and power, when they see the Sovereign Lord return.
This fact propels me to ask you: when was the last time you shared the good news of Jesus’s redemption with someone?
Hopefully, the answer is something like, “Oh, just last week.” Or “while I was waiting in the doctor’s/dentist office/ or sitting on an airplane.” But I’m frankly concerned that many of you have not taken opportunities to share the Gospel. This may be a result of fear of embarrassment or rejection. Of course, you don’t want to “blow it”, and say the wrong thing.
Yet, the reward of leading someone to the Lord is incredible. It is more exciting that seeing a baby get born, because this spiritual birth transforms a life, and guarantees the new believer’s place in Eternity.
Here is a quick, effective, non-threatening method of sharing the Gospel. Prayerfully any conversation like this will end with the listener inviting Christ into his life:
Step 1. Ask the person how he is doing in general, and, then move to asking specifically how is he doing spiritually?
Step 2. Assuming the person says, “I haven’t thought about that,” or “what do you mean, ‘doing spiritually?’”, respond to his answer with another leading question: “Are you interested in learning more about God?” Or “May I share with you some ideas about one’s spiritual life?"
Step 3. Assuming the person says, “Sure” or “What do you mean?”, ask if he would give you five minutes. If he says “yes”, say that you would like to review four basic principles that you find really helpful regarding your relationship with God. (These are in the Four Spiritual Laws Booklet, or the Romans’ Road Tract.) If he says, “No”, bow out gracefully. If he says, “yes”, recite, read, or write down these four principles: [It is best to use Scripture references with each law. There is a phone app for the Four Spiritual Laws.)
Law 1: God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.
Law 2: Unfortunately, man is sinful and separated from God and therefore cannot know or experience God’s love and plan.
Law 3: Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man's sin, as he bridged the gap between God’s holiness and man’s sinfulness by dying on the Cross.
Law 4: It is not enough to give intellectual assent to these laws, or even to have an emotional experience. One must receive them personally as an act of the will. To do so, one can pray a simple prayer: Admit you are a sinner, that you need Jesus as your Savior, and that you want Jesus to come into your heart.
At this point in the conversation, you will have a feel for the person’s receptivity. Let the Holy Spirit take it from there. Prayerfully, the person will become born again, with you as the midwife. If the listener shuts you down, don’t fret. Thank him for his time. Know that at least he has heard the Gospel. You have planted the seed. Who knows what will happen after that!
Let me know how God uses you as a messenger of the Gospel!
