The Word of God: Part Five: A stands for actions and attitudes

In this crazy world we need a compass to direct our path. And the Word of God offers just that. The Psalmist writes: “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. . . . . I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against. you.”   The Bible gives directions for us to follow in life.

But more importantly the Bible gives us the inclination to think the way God wants us to think. And we are not just left there, just thinking good thoughts. The Word of God is at work in you who believe. (1 Thes. 2:13). The word “at work” is energeo, the Greek for energy and power. Somehow this written word actually empowers us to do the right thing.

Notice in Ezekiel, the prophet writes: “And I will put my spirit in you, causing you to be guided by my rules, and you will keep my orders and do them” (Ezek. 36:27 BBE)

How many of you have built a sand castle on the beach, only to watch the tide come in and wash it away? Do you recall the parable building houses? Jesus tells us to build, not on sand, which is changeable and unstable, but on the rock which is the Word of God. (Mat. 7:24)
